This week, I wanted to share a quote I heard awhile back. When I heard it, I could not stop thinking about how much it resonated with me, especially over the past year. And, so, I thought it may resonate with you too. I heard the quote from another yoga teacher; Kathryn Budig, who shared it in the beginning of one of her online classes.
In the absence of feedback, people will fill in the blanks with a negative.
– Pat Summitt
Wow! When I heard this, thoughts of unanswered emails, texts, surveys or just even the silence after sharing something, flooded me. How often do we assume the feedback is negative just because we have not heard something positive or anything at all?? For me, lately, that is a lot. I often need to talk myself out of a circular conversation where I assume the negative and then I need to convince myself that it is not the truth. So, these words were such a great reminder that just because we do not hear what we may want to hear, we do not need to fill the void with negative feedback. Let’s use this reminder for our mantra this week…
This week’s mantra:
I will fill in the blank with a positive.
I will fill in the blank with a positive.
I will fill in the blank with a positive.
With love and gratitude,
Laurel
