A poem, rather than a mantra.

In addition to listening to a lot of podcasts, I love to read and I read a lot. Since our travels are currently restricted, I have been trying to read books that take place in other countries in effort to fulfill my desire to travel. Some days it works and many days it just keeps me yearning to get out there and explore. I am currently reading il bel centro by Michelle Damiani. If you love Italy and want to dream of being there or if you have never been and want to hear how an American family adjusted to living in the Tuscan countryside for a year, check it out. In the book, Michelle mentions this poem by Wendell Berry and I could not stop reading it over and over again.
Our Real Work
It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,
and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.
Somehow this made me feel better. I may not be on the journey I planned or even moving in the same direction anymore, but my mind is constantly working on the next chapter. Oh and it has definitely been baffled. Rather than use a mantra this week to calm our busy brains, let’s simply read Wendell Berry’s poem and allow it to resonate with us.
Sending love!
